Yankee Off Our Back

Orioles finally beat the Yankees (and in NY) - CHECK

Sitting at 16-9 and in second place in the AL is great and all, but it is the vanquishing of those demons listed above that makes it a little sweeter.

Over the last 7 days, the Orioles have been awesome.  Sweeping the Blue Jays, taking two of three from Oakland (including that wonderful walk off win on Sunday), and now actually winning a game over New York is just leaving me speechless.  The team is playing as a team.   Great pitching, timely hitting, good defense, and good enthusiasm keeps the morale high.  And it is showing in the product on the field.  Sportswriters and announcers are dumbfounded with how well the Orioles are doing at the moment, and they are scrambling for answers to explain it.

The injuries are worry some.  Reimold and his neck/back; the flu that hampered Jim Johnson and others.  But if they play through it, and the other key players get healthy, then all should be well in the end.  It is called a team for a reason, others need to pick up the slack when a teammate goes down.  And it will be even a bigger bonus if/when Brian Roberts returns.

The schedule ahead is brutal.  Boston is kind of a laugher now, but then after that we have Texas, Tampa, and New York all at home.  Yuck.

Keep our chin up, keep swinging, and who knows - we just might knock down Goliath as we strive to reach the top.
