Fun Fact Friday

Written by: Peter Coolbaugh

Instead of writing an article on why we are now 3-3 and how the Yankees are the ultimate pain in our side, I decided to put up some fun numbers comparing the Orioles to that NL Philadelphia Club who resides just about 100 miles up I-95.

The reason I pick on the Phillies so much is because I grew up on them, and since my fiancee loves the club, I now have more ammunition to poke fun at their sloppy history. I know they are considered an elite franchise currently, but please people, they are still the Phillies - the losingest club in all sports history.

Reminder that this covers the franchise in its total package. So Phillies (1883-2011) and Orioles (1954-2011).

WON 100 GAMES

Phillies - 3x
Orioles - 5x

WON 90 or MORE GAMES

Phillies - 15x
Orioles - 18x

LOST 90 or MORE GAMES

Orioles - 14x
Phillies - 37x

LOST 100 GAMES

Orioles - 2x
Philles - 14x

FINISHED IN LAST PLACE (in division from 1969 on or in league prior to 1969)

Orioles - 6x
Phillies - 31x

  1. Fun fact for you...
While the Phillies are down at the moment, don't count them out just yet.
