Color Me Orange - With Enthusiasm

Written by: Peter Coolbaugh

I couldn't be happier at the moment.  Orioles are tied for first.  Boston sits on the bottom on the division.  A lot of the "juggernaut" teams in the majors like Anaheim and Philadelphia are struggling.  Perhaps it truly could be a change in the guard.

Our starting pitching has been magnificent and the bullpen has been even better than that.  After dropping two of three to the Angels out west, most people probably thought the swoon was about to begin.  Well, that has proven not to be true - yet at least.

With Brian Matusz' gem last night - though he got a no decision - it showed me how far this club has come.  A lot of critics and sportswriters thought the pitching would be the Achilles' heel once again.  It appears than Mr. Duquette and Buck Showalter have had the last laugh with compiling a staff that appears to be gelling as a team.  And with Jim Johnson out with sickness and Zach Britton about ready to return, it seems that they will only get better.  I am impressed gentlemen, I really am.

The offense has come and gone.  Sluggers like Hardy and Reynolds have yet to get going this season and hit a stride, but Adam Jones, Matt Wieters, Chris Davis and Nolan Reimold have done their part nicely.  The offense numbers are in the middle of the pack right now compared to the rest of the league though in HR's, we are third in all of the majors.  The majority of those have been solo shots but given our record of being over .500, apparently it has been enough.

Room for improvement is always necessary.  More runs, less errors, more stolen bases etc could make this team even better.  But since we are guaranteed to be over .500 going into May, I think we are headed in the right direction.

Watch out Tampa and New York - we are coming for you!
