Final Stretch

Written by: Peter Coolbaugh

Despite losing 4 in a row, the Orioles got back in the W column last night with a 4-0 shutout victory over the Rays, who are supposed to be fighting for the AL East crown. And while we improved to 30-21 under Buck, there have been a few steps back over the last few games which many of us are not too happy about.

First of all, losing 14 straight games at the Rogers Centre/Skydome in Canada is just beyond pathetic. I mean seriously. They are the Blue Jays. Yes, they have an advantage with their their monster stadium built in 1989 and its synthetic surface, bit again we remind ourselves that this is the Blue Jays, who if my math is correct have not been to the postseason since 1993.

So after last night's win, we only have 6 more games till the end of the season. Staff is being evaluated, young call-ups are getting playing time, and the clock will tick towards spring training.

I hope to go out on a high note this year by maybe take 3 or 4 at home this weekend vs. Detroit. Next week the MLB playoffs will begin with some of the same dang teams in it (Yankees, Phillies, Rays) and a bunch of newcomers like Texas and Cincinnati.

I encourage all true fans of the game to watch BASEBALL: The 10th Inning on PBS over the next 2 days. Should be a great treat for real die hards.
