Who Are These Guys?

Written by: Peter Coolbaugh

The Baltimore Orioles have new life. It may be August 10, but they are still fighting. With a 6-1 home stand to start the Showalter era and the best home stand since 2004, these Birds are displaying their talent and prowess to the rest of the majors. By sweeping the Angels and taking 3 of 4 from first place Chicago; the die has been cast. No longer are we a doormat for the AL.

Buck won 6 out of his first 7 as Orioles skipper, something no one else has ever done aside from Earl Weaver. And we all know what kind of career the beloved Earl of Baltimore went on to have. I am very very optimistic at the moment.

Look, we all know the season is lost. Starting 2-16 kind of sealed that early on. At least we are no longer on pace to be one of the 5 worst teams of all times though losing 100 games is still very probable. But the upside of the last week should not be understated. Timely hitting, great starting pitching, good base running, and great defense has helped us add a few W's and gain confidence along the way.

I am hoping for continued success on the road at Cleveland and then at Tampa. Perhaps some more wins will get the fans more energized and have them flock to the next home stand. One thing I am kind of sad about is the lack of people who came out last weekend. Sure it was the Angles and White Sox, but our attendance is very poor. In fact, it is worse than last year at this point. In addition to winning more games, I would love to see more people coming to the ballpark for the rest of the year. Dedication and devotion has long been a trademark of Baltimore fans. Let's show that loyalty people.

Next home stand begins on Monday, August 16. Come out early and see our beloved Birds.

As for Buck, I think I might call city hall and see if we can get a parade in his honor already. BUCK for President in 2012!

  1. The real litmus test will be the Yankees and the Rays, in my opinion. We'll see how much our O's really have then.

They do play like a completely different team now, which is a refreshing change.

Buck's presence and knowledge cannot be understated. If the players follow through, the man will never be out managed.
