Can It Be Any Worse?

Written by: Peter Coolbaugh

Last place. Still. Worst in the majors. Nothing really changes.

So, our offense is back to being inept. Bullpen implodes. Staff "ace" Millwood now on DL with a near 6.00 ERA. Our far east delicate flower Koji is a complete waste of money.

So have we improved at all? Izturis is great in the field. Markakis is one of the best, yet overlooked, players in the AL and certainly deserved to be an All-Star. Felix Pie has returned to the lineup and Matt Wieters is picking it up a bit more.

But, we did drop 2 in Boston and then get swept in Detroit. Still on pace to be one of the 5 to 10 worst teams in the history of the majors. No permanent manager yet and a lot of future opponents are salivating at racking up the wins against us. Pad the stats as they say.

I am not going to accentuate the little positives this time around. With this team's recent play coupled by the heat in the east, I just don't have the energy to put out some wonderful spin or PR on this club. Two tidbits to think about though that I recently came across. One, Andy MacPhail is supposed the GM who is the fastest to 300 losses ever in the history of MLB. Two, if none of our starters pick up their 4th win this weekend it will mark the first time ever that nobody on a team got their 4th win by the break. Sad...very, very sad.

Don't know what else I can tell you at this moment. At least a good crowd is guaranteed next Saturday on the 17th for the free Brooks jersey. When promos are the only thing to look forward to, you know the franchise is at rock bottom.
