Stick A Fork In Them

Written by: Peter Coolbaugh

I know that this team was done by May 1. But now I am writing the obituary. They play with no desire, no hustle, not a care in the world. Lousy, pathetic play is something that stems from bad ownership and a culture of losing that has hovered over the warehouse since 1998. The players get the same salary no matter what so why try, right? And since you cannot withhold pay or fine these guys - thank you menacing union - we are stuck in neutral.

My observation is that the arms have been rushed and now are floundering. There are no big bats in the lineup unless maybe Wieters catches fire. No drastic moves have been made in terms of shaking up the team (i.e. cutting Atkins) and displaying that no one is safe. I hope to see 3 or 4 of them traded and a bunch sent down or waived. If the rumors are true that Felix Pie is close to coming back, then bye-bye Montanez. Lugo is only here because B-Rob isn't. I personally would trade Millwood, Guthrie, and maybe a few others if you can get something for them.

Thirty games under .500 at 6/15/2010. We are on pace to be the worst team in Orioles history since 1954 (no one counts the Browns era) and could very realistically compete for the worst team of all time title which is currently held (for the modern era) by the 1962 Mets.

If I were Juan Samuel, I would stock up on pain killers and maybe some Pepto. It looks like the longest season ever.

Somewhere Dave Trembley is smiling. I hope he gets another shot someday.
