It Has Arrived!

Written by: Peter Coolbaugh

Tonight we get to see the 2010 Orioles for the first time. Much to our dismay, the Birds begin on the road at the wonderful venue known a Tropicana Field against the Rays of Tampa Bay.

Kevin Millwood will be making his first regular season appearance as an Oriole and several other new/returning faces will debut along with him. Much has been made about Baltimore's attempts to rise back into prominence as one of the AL's best clubs. Tonight they get to make their presence known by attempting to take down a team who made it to the World Series in 2008 but missed the playoffs last year.

Andy MacPhail's plan now goes under to microscope a bit more. Players, coaches and the manager will all be watched closely by the front office and I have a feeling that failure will not be tolerated. If you stink, you will be benched. If you can't manage the teams to wins, you will get fired. Crack the whip and see what happens. This kind of discipline has been lacking for oh say... 12 years. Now with a core of supposed talent on the mound and in the field and a budding farm system, the time has arrived to climb the ladder of success.

The off season improvements are not just isolated with the players. The team and the stadium authority have renovated the seats on the lower level, added new concessions inside the park, and right now are replacing/upgrading the area around the retired numbers at the north end of the warehouse. Hopefully the repairs to the facility and the upgrades to the team go hand in hand gel and give us a great product and park to show off to the league.

I for one am sick of being a loser. Taking crap from Boston fans and more than a decade of being below .500 has made me angry. Incredible Hulk angry. Time to fight back. I am armed with my new jersey and my merchandise and ready to cheer on the Birds this year. A winning season could bring all the fans back home to the Nest and get us back to being an elite franchise. Given the tremendous history this club has had since the 1950's, I want to experience some of that for myself.

Heck, if the historically awful Phillies can build a winning club, it should not be THAT hard.

See you at the Yard on Friday!
