Tillman Makes Major League Debut

By Ben Butanis

Chris Tillman lasted a little over four innings, allowing three solo home runs and recording two strikeouts while throwing 94 pitches in his professional debut.

The kid looks decent. Given some time, he could be outstanding. Watching him makes me really look forward to two years down the road when the rotation might look a little like this:
1. Brian Matusz
2. Brad Bergeson
3. Jake Arrieta
4. Chris Tillman
5. Jeremie Guthrie

With respect my colleague Peter Coolbaugh's previous post, I'm cautiously optimistic about the team's future. The Orioles still have a long way to go to reach "respectable status," and I expect Andy McPhail to work in the best interests of the team. I'd give McPhail a solid B on the rebuilding effort thus far.

If it were up to me, I'd trade Aubrey Huff, George Sherrill, and Melvin Mora. Only Huff and Sherrill really have any real value, but Melvin Mora may be able to yeild a mid-level prospect from a desperate team.

Huff is a free agent at the end of the season, and assuming his comments expressing his interest to remain in Baltimore, could re-sign with the O's after the season.

I don't believe the Orioles have a legitimate farm player they can call upon to take over for Huff or Mora. But Ty Wigginton is a suitable stopgap replacement until the end of the season.
