Stumbling Out of the Gate

Written by: Peter Coolbaugh

Well, the second half is not going so well. 1-3 so far with five more games on the road. It is ugly out there right now.

With the exception of the offensive output on Sunday in Chicago, we have seen a lot of lousy pitching and fielding over the last 4 games. And last night's walk off HR by New York was very infuriating.

Sure, we have had bright spots this season. A great Opening Day; the emergence of All-Star Adam Jones; Brad Bergensen; the ultimate come-from-behind win over Boston; etc. But it has been what most experts thought it would be - a true rebuilding year with sub par pitching and an emerging group of core youngsters.

Am I disappointed in the season thus far, certainly. But as a realist, I know these pains are going to endure for a while. We did very well in interleague play this year, but seem to have trouble with certain club like Anaheim and the dreaded BoSux. Perhaps my next article will be more enthusiastic and inspired, brought on by a mini win streak?

N.B. - Nolan Reimold t-shirt night is next Tuesday at the Yard.
