What A Difference A Week Can Make

Written by: Tony Martin

Last week, I pretty much ripped on the Orioles pitching. Well, this week, they answered back with a vast improvement and went from a 2-4 week to a 5-2 week and from a 6.11 ERA to this weeks astonishing 3.18 ERA. All I can say is WOW. Good pitching = winning.

Friday nights debut of Matt Wieters was exciting, but, in my opinion was over shadowed by both Luke Scott's and Brad Bergesen's performances, and rightfully so. The young pitchers this week, have been outstanding. The rookies, Bergesen, Berken and Hernandez went a combined 3-1 with a 2.14 ERA, and the loss was a phenomenal performance today by Jason Berken, 7 innings with only 1 earned run.

After a week, I am so excited for these three young pitchers to continue and for Koji to get back and healthy, and dare I say? Make a run for the wild card, or even the AL east? I know I am most likely being premature, but as a fan of a team that has had eleven consecutive losing seasons, all I have is hope.

I am looking forward to this weeks games against Seattle and Oakland, if the Orioles can go 4-2 on this coming week's road trip, they will be in good shape with momentum going into their nine game home stand against Seattle, Atlanta and the Mets. Lets hope for great pitching, more homers from Luke Scott and I can't wait to see Matt Weiters' hit some bombs. GO O's!!!!!!!

PS. Mr. MacPhail, please don't ever leave the Orioles organization, you are the greatest thing that has happened to them. You have given us fans something to cheer for and look forward to again for the first time in over ten years. Thank you.
